A day in the life · Fictional example

Meet Dave. Great sparky. Busy business owner.

Dave can wire a house, but he doesn't want to spend his evenings worrying about hackers. Sound familiar?

Dave's Electrical Services

His whole office fits on a kitchen table.

Dave is a made-up example of a sole trader in Melbourne. He does jobs on-site and catches up on business paperwork at home.

He isn't careless — he's busy. Like plenty of tradies, he hasn't had time to check whether his digital tools are secure.

Four everyday situations

Here's what can go wrong — and what we'd do.

01
The fake supplier email

“Your invoice payment details have changed.”

Someone gains access to Dave's email or impersonates a supplier. They send updated bank details and hope Dave pays before checking.

How we help: Set up MFA or passkeys, review account recovery and forwarding rules, and teach Dave to verify bank-detail changes using a trusted phone number.
02
The laptop problem

All his customer records are on one device.

If the laptop is lost, fails or becomes infected, Dave might lose important quotes and spreadsheets.

How we help: Review device protection and updates, configure a suitable versioned backup, and test restoring a file. Cloud sync alone may not be a complete backup.
03
The accounting login

MYOB contains important invoices and records.

Dave uses MYOB daily but hasn't looked at who has access or how to recover the account securely.

How we help: Review available MYOB security settings, enable supported strong sign-in options, examine authorised users and explain fake accounting-software messages.
04
The home network

His work laptop shares the household Wi-Fi.

An outdated router or weak settings can make the network harder to trust.

How we help: With permission, check supported router updates, encryption, administrator access and guest-network options. This is an optional add-on.
What would Dave buy?

A straightforward plan, not a corporate IT bill.

THE STARTER JOURNEY

First: a $99 Cyber Check

We identify his biggest gaps. If he proceeds to the $249 setup within 30 days, the $99 is credited toward that setup.

Then: a $249 Protection Setup

We secure the agreed device and key accounts, configure a basic backup and check that a file can be recovered.

Optional: $49/month with quarterly on-site checks

We visit Dave every three months for a scheduled on-site check-up, and conduct light monthly off-site status checks where reporting is available. Dave still owns his software accounts and decides on extra purchases.

Your business might look a lot like Dave's.

Tell us what software you use and we'll explain where to start — without jargon or scare tactics.
